Sensei Question (not Seppun =)

Can you Amnesia or Forgotten Lesson a Sensei no longer attached to a Stronghold?

No. These cards, like most cards, can only target something in play.

A Question

I'm sorry if this has been asked (and answered) but I've been offlist for a couple of months.

I did see a ruling upwards of a month ago that said a (face-up) Personality in a Province is still a Personality. Does this mean that cards such as Last Gift and Dark Secrets can target a face-up Personality in a Province? Both cards do not target a "Personality in play" but just a "Personality".

All cards, Strongholds, etc. are implicitly restricted to targeting only cards in play by default.

Seppun Sensei

I would like to have someone post on this mail list the effect cards have or dont have against Seppun Sensei as I am totally lost.

In a nutshell: Seppun Sensei applies to any Reaction to a gain or loss prevents or negates it, changes the amount, changes which player experiences it, or changes it from one to the other. It also applies to Samurai seppuku. It does not apply to ongoing effects which do any of the above automatically.

And, I would like to know exactly what a "voluntary" honor gain is as opposed to any other?

Not a voluntary gain, a voluntary CHANGE. A voluntary change is one which a player has a choice whether or not to use. An effect which will automatically apply to the gain or loss is not voluntary.

In Time of War specifically states that all honor gains above 5 are negated, so how does this event trump the sensei?

It doesn't.

Sensei Question (not Seppun =)

(html)(DIV) (P)@nbsp;@nbsp; Er,@nbsp;I could be wrong, but I don't think you can use more than one copy of a sensei in your deck.@nbsp; Also, no, I don't think anyone can target a card in your discard pile, or otherwise not in play, unless the card targeting the out-of-play card states that it can.(/P) (P)@nbsp;@nbsp; -Shimaya Naito, Owl Clan Mystic, Dragon Clan Emissary(BR)(BR)(/P)(/DIV)

Okay, people. Please don't send HTML or Rich Text email to the list. It comes out garbled like this to anyone who gets it in digest mode or doesn't use Netscape or a Microsoft product to read their mail.

It's legal to have up to three copies of any given Sensei in your Fate deck before the start of the game. They're not one of the card types restricted by the rulebook to one copy.

Shadowlands and gold edition.

I held a Gold-ish tournament at CONspiracy last weekend and Shadowlands finished second (to Phoenix), and that was with the standard Favor rules. Once the favor gets weakened by the "splitting" of its abilities, I think Shadowlands will be even better.

Personally I dont see how they benefit all that much -- just make for the send home favor since that's the one you virtually always use against SL anyway.

That will only help if you get to see your opponent's Stronghold before you pick your Wind.

Speculation on the mechanics but I fail to see how they would make SL any stronger.

It makes low-honor clans *relatively* stronger, as it makes high-honor clans weaker.

Shadowlands and gold edition [JUNTA]

How about a clarification on the exalted Ugu. Once upon a time it was said (in the name of balance) that Ugu could not react multiple times with differnt cards to Ring of Air. Now that the Dragon tat infinite innate has been let go can we let Ugu and his pals react away?

Ugu falls squarely under the "you can only use each printed instance of a Reaction once per trigger" rule. No.

Agasha Join the Phoenix

Greetings.

I have a question regarding a few specific instances of the event The Agasha Join the Phoenix. Perhaps a blanket definition can be made.

The card reads, "Choose one family name from another Clan. For the rest of the game ...)."

Situation One: A Dragon player names Doji. Doji Reju exp2 has the Dragon Clan trait. Is this a legal choice?

Whether "Doji" is legal depends only on whether there are any "Doji" family Personalities with Clan alignments *other than* "Dragon Clan", which there are. The presence of one (or even a thousand) "Doji" family Personality with "Dragon Clan" makes not one speck of difference.

Situation Two: A Dragon player names Shinjo. Hitomi Tashima is an experienced Shinjo Tashima, and of the Dragon clan. Is this, then, a legal choice?

Yes. See above.

Situation Three: A Dragon player names Agasha, working under the assumption that, based upon the storyline, the Agasha did in fact join the Phoenix, and now are no longer of the Dragon clan.

What matters is card text. Since there exists an Agasha Personality with an alignment other than "Dragon Clan" (Agasha Genai Exp.), "Agasha" is a legal choice.

Situation Four: A Dragon player names Hoshi, which is the family name of half a dozen unaligned monks, while also the family name of a few Dragon clan personalities. Is this a legal choice?

Yes.
