When a win does a win happen?

L5R CCG Rules board, 16 April 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Let say a player is defending their last provence and he know will lose provence, but through battle action he has reached 40 honor. Who won? Dose the game stop once the player reach 40 or do they finish the phase and player with 40 honor has lost his last provence.

Each win condition has specific timing.

In your example, the military player would win, as that Win Condition checks when a player's last province is destroyed.

An Honor win on the other hand is check at the start of that player's turn.
