Conquest Redux

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 March 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I've gone over the other posts here (like this one) regarding the way conquest works, but I just had to super double check because there seems to be a strange redundency that's throwing me and I guess I'm wondering if it's unnecessary or that I'm missing something.

Conquest: "Reaction: After a battle resolution ends, choose your performing attacking Conqueror Personality at that battlefield: Straighten his unit. It will not bow from the battle’s resolution."

What's the point of the last sentance? I mean, if the reaction is after the battle resolution ends, then wouldn't it be too late for the unit to not bow from the battle's resolution? It's not like the unit contributes force to the battle suddenly and then goes home straightened or something, right?

Note here: Battles.

Battle Resolution is Step C, whereas units are returned home and bowed in Final Steps, D. The kicker is that this bowing and returning home is considered an effect FROM/OF Resolution, though it does not occur DURING it.

Yes, it is a bit odd, I grant you. But there you have it.
