BtD Terrains (Rocky Terrain and The Killing Grounds)

L5R CCG Rules board, 24 January 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Revisting some cards for the Kolat Edition environment, I noticed something.

In Before the Dawn, the two Terrains in the set lack the condition, "If there are no terrains in play at the current battlefield" to their Battle ability that puts them in to play.

This conditional clause appears on all Terrains in FL, SC and EE (exception: Ancient Feud, for obvious reasons).

There is also no longer a Comprehensive Rules clause that states that there can only be a single Terrain in play at any one battlefield and the Glossary entry for Terrains in the Rulebook only states that, "Terrain: A Strategy with the Terrain keyword represents the ground on which a battle is fought. Most Terrains have a Battle ability that puts them into play at the current battlefield if no Terrain is already in play," hinting that not all Terrains would have this clause.

My question is, can Rocky Terrain and/or The Killing Grounds be put in to play by their own text if there is already another Terrain in play at the current battlefield?

Relevant card text: Rocky Terrain (BtD) - "Battle: Put this card into play at the current battlefield." The Killing Grounds (BtD) - "Battle: Put this card into play at the current battlefield." Heart of Darkness (FL) - "Battle: If no terrain is at the current battlefield: Put this card into play there." Hasty Fortifications (SC) - "Battle: If there is no terrain in play at the current battlefield: Put this card into play there." Flooded Pass (EE) - "Battle: Even if you control no units at the current battlefield, if there are no Terrains there: Put this card into play there." Encircled Terrain (EE) - "Battle: If there are no Terrains in play at the current battlefield: Put this card into play there."

Regarding the question in http://alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=95893:

The two terrains are MRPed in EE starters to have the updated text. Going from my deck lists (so pretty sure what actually made it into the starters. Haven't checked yet.) 2 Rocky Terrains in each of Lion, Crane, Mantis. 2 Killing Grounds in each of Unicorn, Scorpion, Phoenix
