Created cards and Ring of Water

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 December 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

From the question on created cards actions for Ring of Water:

Since created cards have no title, they never have a title that another card does not have, so they never count among the "cards with different titles" for the Ring of Water.

Two points here that I would like clarified - many of the relevant created cards now have token cards printed for them with a title - Tokoru's Bear for example. Why do these not count as titles for cards?

Second, by this logic, a card that targets a personality with a 'different clan alignment' could never target a personality with no clan alignment as there is nothing to compare it to?

Because it's also perfectly legal to represent those created cards with a scrap of paper, or a glass bead, or what-have-you (see here). The effect that creates them doesn't give them a title, so they have none, no matter what you choose to use to represent them.

Hypothetically and tentatively, yes. Although, I'd prefer not to make a general sweeping statement based on a snippit of text that may or may not be from an actual card. Exact wordings from actual cards are best for the most accurate rulings.
