Minimums and Maximums...

L5R CCG Rules board, 3 June 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So the response in this thread confuses me.

To recap the question was: There is a continuous effect stating Player As personalities have a minimum PH equal to their Base Personal Honor. There is a second continuous effect that says Player A's Attacking Personalities have +1 PH.

If player A attacks with A 4PH (Base) personality (PH now equals 5), and that personality gets dishonored during the battle, what is his personal honor?

The response was 4, but that seems in contradiction to the rules...

In the event that a stat receives a minimum value that is above its existing maximum value, or a maximum that is below its minimum, its value will not change at all until the minimum and the maximum cease to contradict each other.

Since at the time the Maximum of 0 (for being dishonored) is applied the personalities PH is 5, why would it not stay 5 per the rules quoted above? If it does stay 5 what happens when the +1 PH for attacking no longer applies because the personality is, no longer attacking?

Further the example text right below the rule I quoted seems to imply that if the minimum had been applied later than the maximum in this situation that the PH would remain zero (rather than 4).

The rules say that when a bonus or penalty no longer applies that the stat is reclaculated at that point, but the rule quoted above says it doesn't change at all while the contradiction exists. So would that mean the personality keeps his 5 PH, until he gets rehonored at some other time (where he isn't in battle)?
