Matsu Naomasa and Brothers in Battle

L5R CCG Rules board, 27 May 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 27 May 2011

Brothers in Battle says: Bushido Virtue • Duty Battle/Open: Choose two or three of your performing Samurai: Each of them has +1F and the ability "Battle: Ranged 4 Attack" while in an army with one or more of the others.

Matsu Naomasa says: Reaction: After one of your Bushido Virtue actions targets Naomasa: Gain 2 Honor

Question: Is "choosing" Naomasa for Brothers in Battle considered "targeting" for Naomasa's reaction?

Is "choosing" Naomasa for Brothers in Battle considered "targeting" for Naomasa's reaction?

No. Targeting is explicit; the actual word "target" must appear, or it isn't targeting.

http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Targeting: "The word “target” must appear as a verb or an adjective for the procedure to be considered targeting -- just “choosing” something is not targeting."
