Follower Cards VS Tokens

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 May 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Are Follower tokens the same as Follower cards? Here's an example:

We Stand Ready Limited: Target your Scout, and bow him unless he is Crab Clan: Target a province. After each time one of your units assigns to its battlefield this turn, create a 0F Follower card and attach it to its Personality.

Orochi Sensei Limited: Pay 3 Gold, and target and remove from the game a Storm Rider Personality in your discard pile: Target an Orochi. Attach a Naval Storm Rider Follower token to it with the same printed Force and printed abilities as the removed Personality.

I know tokens are, by definition, not cards, but the rules concerning tokens indicate that tokens consists of stat bonuses/penalties and/or a title. But a Follower TOKEN does not grant any stat bonuses, it has its own force.

Allegiance to the Shogun [sic]... "Open: Target and bow a Wind you control: Target a Personality with an attached card or the Gozoku trait. Straighten his unit."

For instance, if you targeted an Orochi with a Follower "token" with this Strategy, would it be a legal target & straighten the unit?

Are Follower tokens the same as Follower cards?

There haven't been Follower tokens in L5R for years.

http://rules.l5r.com/Older_Cards#Non-ca ... e_elements: "Things that say they create tokens with a card type (such as “Follower tokens”) create cards of that type instead of tokens. Likewise, any text that refers to a "token" or "non-token" card type should be read as referring to "created" or "non-created"."
