Temple of Purity VS Plains of Resolution

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 May 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

This came up in a game and we weren't sure how to rule it.

My first action on my turn is to target my Samurai Personality with Plains of Resolution. My opponent then targets that Personality with Temple of Purity. Does my personality get -4F?

Relevant text:

Temple of Purity Text Temple Open: Even if this card if bowed, target another player's Personality: Give him -4F, which will not be negated. If he is Kolat, Ninja, or Shadowlands, you control an Inquisitor, and it is not your turn, choose a player who gains or loses 2 Honor.

Plains of Resolution Text Singular Open: Bow this card: Your target Samurai contributes force while bowed and will not have his force reduced by other players' cards.

Does my personality get -4F?

No the effect of Plains of Resolution prevents that penalty, because "will not" does not mean that the penalty is negated. For more information, see "Does not/Will not" versus Negation.
