Dynasty Phase Timing

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 March 2011 to 30 March 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Just cross-checking my understanding based on: http://rules.l5r.com/images/0/01/Judge_rulebook.pdf

A. The personality enters a specially created entering-play area. B. The personality’s Honor Requirement and other restrictions on its entering play are checked at this point and at no other time; if the Personality is aligned to the player's clan and it is the player's Dynasty Phase, the player may ignore the Personality's Honor Requirement and increase his Gold cost to enter play by 2. If these conditions are not met, the Personality card returns to where it came from (shuffling the deck if it came directly from a deck search) and the sequence ends. C. If requirements and restrictions were met in step B, the player pays the Personality’s Gold cost; if the Personality is aligned to the player's clan and it is the player's Dynasty Phase, the player may choose to pay 2 less Gold for the Personality. The player then pays any other costs of bringing the Personality into play. See Costs, p. 22. D. The player may gain Honor from the rule about bringing Clan-aligned into pay for full cost (See Dynasty Phase), then the Personality enters play. This Honor gain is timed “before” the Personality enters play. E. The entering-play area ceases to exist.

-- -Lion player is at 7 family honor -Lion player decides to bring in to play a 7G personality with 7HR [step A] -Lion player checks HR vs family honor. [step B] -Lion player pays the gold cost, discounted, with Border Keep (2G) and with Smuggler's Port (3G,-2Honor) [Step C] [Step D] [Step E] -7G, 7HR personality is in play with Lion player at 5 family honor.

*Lion player pays the gold cost, full, with two 2G producing holdings and with Smuggler's Port (3G,-2H). 7G total [Step C] *Lion player honor equal to the (x)PH of 7G personality[Step D] [Step E] *7G, 7HR personality is in play with Lion player at 5+x family honor.

Is this correct?

Nothing leaps out as a problem.

Did you have some specific potential problem in mind? Because "Is this right?" is a rather general question, and with a long series of specific events like this, it's easy to overlook something.

I would think that the question is the following: is the honor requirement checked before or after paying cost (and it matters in this case because the player is using a holding that will drop his honor below requirements)

If that was the question: No it does not matter if honor drops while Gold is being produced, because there is only one "checkpoint" for honor requirements, which is before that.
