Alright me and a friend were playing a game where a unit with Chagatai's Armor got hit with a unit destruction, the previous way we played this situation was Chagatai's Armor reacts saves the personality however the other cards in the unit, including Chagatai's hits the trash bin. However earlier today my friend referenced these rulings about this situation that seem to be in contradiction about what happens.

Could someone please explain what happens to the unit when a unit with Chagatai's is hit with a unit destruction effect. I am pretty sure we have been playing it right, but these rulings are causing an argument in our playgroup about it.
Thanks in advance

Please note than Zen's original recent ruling on The Last One was wrong but has since been corrected.
In brief, Chagatai's Armor negates the Personality's destruction, but is itself destroyed.
In detail:
1,000 Cuts Technique (for example): Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Kensai and bow two of his Weapons: Destroy a target enemy unit.
Chagatai's Armor: Reaction: Before the resolution of another player's action: Negate either the bowing, destruction, or movement of this Personality from the action's effects.
See Abilities and actions, Using abilities.
Player A puts 1,000 Cuts Technique on the table. Step A (Announcement): Player A announces that he will use the Battle ability on 1,000 Cuts Technique. Step B (Performing & targeting): Player A declares which of his Kensai will perform the action and declares Player B's unit containing Matsu Kenji, Chagatai's Armor and an Imperial Elite Guard as the target. Step C (Costs): Player A bows the Kensai's two weapons to pay the cost. Before step D, Player B announces and resolves the Reaction on Chagatai's Armor, creating an ongoing effect that negates Matsu Kenji's destruction from 1,000 Cuts Technique. Step D (Resolution): Player A resolves the effects of 1,000 Cuts Technique: Matsu Kenji's unit is destroyed. Nothing negates or otherwise prevents the destruction of Chagatai's Armor and the Imperial Elite Guard; however Matsu Kenji's destruction is negated. Step E (End): The action ends. Player A puts 1,000 Cuts Technique in the discard pile.

That The Last One ruling was wrong makes no difference to the ruling on Chagatai's Armor, as it happens. The timing of the two cases is different. The Reaction on Chagatai's Armor occurs before destruction; the situation with The Last One was simultaneous destruction of cards.

Actually, the timing in the two cases is pretty similar. Both Chagatai's Armor's action and The Last One's action have resolved by the time 1,000 Cuts Technique resolves. In the case of Chagatai's Armor, it's immediately before; in the case of The Last One, it's any time before, quite likely on previous turns. In both cases, the actions create ongoing effects that negate the destruction of the Personality (and only the Personality) from certain effects.
