Chi Death Questions

L5R CCG Rules board, 26 January 2011 to 27 January 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

OK so I understand that Strength of the Bamboo can negate a chi death action. However since the game continuously is checking to kill off any character with 0 Chi would they still die anyway? Or do they somehow live for the rest of the turn.

in response to this question: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=88597

scenario: i have a hero personality who has his Chi reduced to zero and has it subsequently negated by strength of bamboo. he is then given another chi penalty the same turn by an action (his chi still at zero from before)- what happens?

does he live or die? thank you.

He dies.

http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Source_of_effects: "A Personality’s destruction for having 0 Chi (Chi death rule) comes from the cost or effect that last gave the Personality a Chi penalty, or from the rulebook if there was no such effect." (Emphasis added.)

Negating an effect from the first action does nothing to the effect from a second action.

I have a hero personality with 4 chi, 4 -1 chi tokens and a +1 chi weapon. If my opponent destroys that weapon (with e.g. rout) may i use strength of the bamboo to delay the destruction ?

No, because the Personality is killed by the loss of a bonus, not a new penalty to chi.

See Effects, Source of Effects for more details.
