Hundred-Fold Cut vs. Consumed by Five Fires

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Can Hundred Fold Cut be played as a Reaction to Consumed by Five Fires in order to stop the Kensai's destruction?

Is this question asking if targeting a Unit the same as targeting a Personality?

http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_U#Unit: "Targeting a unit is the same as targeting its Personality."

Or is there something else generating the question?

If the question is, "Does Consumed by Five Fires's destruction of the whole unit - including any weapons - mean that it's not possible to play Hundred-Fold Cut because the weapons will be destroyed before the Reaction is taken?" then the answer is no. Reactions triggered "before" an effect are taken before all other effects that occur simultaneously with that effect, such as the destruction of each card in a unit.

This is the same as, for example, when Duty is played in response to Burn the Village: you can destroy one of the personalities about to be destroyed by Burn the Village to negate the destruction of the other.
