A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Short inquiry:
if an action on a personality's card or a battle action that targets a personality, and it is triggered off of (that personality's) force amount, does it use:
the attached follower force as well...(unit force)
or just the base force, plus any modifiers including weapons?
i know printed force means printed force, but i have few examples of unit force vs. personality force only when it cones to battle actions (except wedge)
clearing this up will help my game group a ton!!! (and by a rules expert would be top dog!!!) (especially if celestial edition changes something)
EDIT: Wow, you can't reply in CCG rules? so, no follow up questions...without new post
in any case, the examples i was most thinking of were: 'Akodo Seiichi': if you attach a metric ton of followers to him, he doesn't bow the opposing army? my local group thinks he does.
same goes: 'To do what we must.' the MRP says a crane personality sacrifices to do that. but it also says his force, plus HP, plus 2... it woudn't work if said exploding crane had 7 followers attached, unless you just wanted to say phooey to all those followers.
thank you for clearing the smoke from our eyes!

Personality force is just that: Personality alone (plus modifiers). Followers are not part of the calculation.
Don't extrapolate from other rules that equate doing something to a unit as the same as doing that thing to a Personality.

sorry for disturbing you guys again. pass answering this along if need be.
i noticed i can't reply to messages in Rules forums. Ok.
on this message: Just wanna clarify: unit force vs. personality force
my group is a bit huffy, and wants to know if celestial rules even matter to the rules answer. (sigh) see, the rules we usually play by are open format, and the group often ignores things like ban lists and the MRP rule. (yeah, i know)
present argument: Akodo Seiichi can bow an enemy army if he has enough force attached. (as long as it's not followers)
however, i understand your ruling.
i used to run Exp. Radakast, a naga hero from time of the Void. awesome card. he targets to destroy opposing creatures, then gains 1F. in old rules, he could do that with unlimited finnesse (the rule of repeating actions over again that had no cost was implemented after this, which i was using as soon as i pulled him in 1997) as long as he had the Ancestral Weapon.
i never counted in the followers attached to him.
sorry for bugging you with this argument, but there are tough heads about. please, get the message to my swamp!

Hey, what you do in the privacy of your own gaming place is your business.
For what it's worth, the Legacy rules first and foremost follow the most recent rules (though the wiki takes it up to Samurai Edition; http://rules.l5r.com/Legacy_Format). But yes, there are many alternate formats and ways of playing, and if you have a group of like-minded players who are willing to play under those rules, good for you.
Akodo Seiichi can bow an enemy army if he has enough force attached.
Yes. Yes, he can.
Whether this is a good thing or not doesn't influence whether it is a legal thing or not, rules-wise.
