Yogo Kazunori + Mountains of the Phoenix

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 February 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hello, If Yogo Kazunori is at a battlefield where Mountains of the Pheonix is in effect, and I choose him, will his negate-death reaction kick in? I am confused as to who is destroying the units, the mountains or the choosing player. If the reaction does work, can I then use the second half of the reaction to send him home and dishonour someone?

Yogo Kazunori: Reaction: Before another player's action destroys Kazunori: Negate the destruction. You may move Kazunori home. If he moved, you may dishonor a Personality.

Mountains of the Phoenix: Battle: Before this battle’s resolution, the Attacker and the Defender each choose a unit in their own army; the active player decides who chooses first. Then, destroy the chosen units.

Also, not all of the Death at Koten cards appear to be in the Online Specific Card Rulings and MRP's. Why is that?

Thank you,

If Yogo Kazunori is at a battlefield where Mountains of the Pheonix is in effect, and I choose him, will his negate-death reaction kick in?

Yes, assuming Mountains of the Phoenix has been played by another player, because Kazunori is about to be destroyed by this action and that is precisely what his Reaction looks for.

I am confused as to who is destroying the units, the mountains or the choosing player.

The destruction comes from the Terrain (see Sources of effects). You are required to make a choice but you are not responsible for its consequences.

If the reaction does work, can I then use the second half of the reaction to send him home and dishonour someone?

Yes, nothing prevents it.

Also, not all of the Death at Koten cards appear to be in the Online Specific Card Rulings and MRP's. Why is that?

Because those pages show cards that have received errata or MRPs, as well as a few cards with frequently asked questions or useful related rulings (e.g. Wrath of Kali-Ma). Other cards are not added there. All cards from Celestial Edition (except Acrobat Troupe) are MRPs.
