L5R CCG Rules board, 27 January 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Temple Battle: Target your unbowed Samurai, and you may bow one of your Shugenja at any location: Target an enemy Follower or Personality without Followers. Destroy it if its Force is lower than your Samurai's Force plus the Chi of any Shugenja you bowed.

Since the shugenja can be targeted as part of the performing clause, can you use the stronghold's ability in conjunction with a naval shugenja?

I'm sorry, that's not correct. Note, in the text, the Shugenja bowed as part of the ability's cost is NOT targeted, only the Samurai is. Therefore, the Shugenja is not performing the action and it may not be used with a Naval Shugenja. You may use the ability in conjunction with a Naval Samurai, however.
