Bayushi Sihaken + Fields of Battle

L5R CCG Rules board, 27 January 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 27 January 2010

Bayushi Sihaken: Reaction: After Sihaken's army destroys one or more provinces or enemy units by winning a battle: The Defender loses 2 Honor

Fields of Battle: Battle: While at this battlefield, Personalities with 0 or 1 Personal Honor may not use their base abilities and have -1F.

Question about timing. If Sihaken wins a battle where Fields of Battle has been played, is the terrain cleared before or after Sihaken's reaction (i.e. can he use his ability?)

Unrelated follow-up: If Fields of Battle has already been played and then personalities move into the battlefield, do they now suffer from Fields of Battle's effects, or do the penalities only apply to personalities present when Fields of Battle was played?

Thank you,

Provinces are destroyed during the Resolution Segment, but Terrains aren't discarded until the Final Steps, so Sihaken will not be able to use his Reaction (see here for the sequence).

The former case. Personalities moving in later would be subject to the restriction and penalty. The Terrain creates an ongoing effect that affects all Personalities to whom the conditions apply while it lasts.

Thank you,

You're very welcome.
