Consuming the Flesh and Udo

L5R CCG Rules board, 6 January 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 6 January 2010

Please forgive a question that probably has an obvious answer, but is it legal for an Udo under my control to react to my use Consuming the Flesh? I tried searching for the combo of Consuming and Udo and didn't get anything, forgive me if I missed it.

Relevant cards: Consuming the Flesh: Maho Reaction: After another player's action targets one of your Personalities in your current army, destroy the Personality and bow this card: The action's effects do not happen. Create a 2F/2C/0PH Shadowlands • Undead Personality at the current battlefield. Lose 3 Honor.

Udo:Maho Reaction: After the resolution of an action that destroyed a Follower or Personality: Create a 2F/2C/0PH Shadowlands • Undead Personality at Udo's location.

I wasn't sure because Udo says "action" and I don't think Consuming qualifies. Is it possible to react to a reaction like this?

Thanks.

As I understand it, the core question here is, "Is a Reaction an action?"

Yes, it is.

Or perhaps I'm mistaken, and the core question is, "Does destroying something when paying the cost of an action count as 'an action that destroyed something'?"

Yes, it does.

In other words, nothing prevents it. This combo is fine.
