Can you use Kurogane navally with a naval personality? I was told recently that only one card performing an action must be naval in order to use a naval action, so I though this might be possible.
Akodo Kurogane and naval
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Can you use Kurogane navally with a naval personality?
Mod nudge: Please use complete card titles when asking questions. I'm going to assume you mean Akodo Kurogane here, and modify the thread title accordingly.
Yes.

For the record, and so that you don't have to rely on heresay, the actual rule is here: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_The_Player#Player_abilities

Akodo Kurogane is not naval to begin with. I thought that in order to perform a naval action, you must declare a personality with a Naval keyword. Or I might be wrong.
I only want to be clarified. Thanks for your answers.

Two different abilities are involved here. Firstly the Reaction in the rulebook that a Naval Personality can perform after engaging so that his controller will get the first normal opportunity to take a Battle action or pass during the battle (see Player abilities). Secondly this player must announce a Battle action that the Naval Personality chosen above must perform (see Perform in the glossary).
Here comes Akodo Kurogane. Per the glossary, his Battle action is performed by two Personalities: himself, because the ability is on him, and the targeted unit that will bow to pay its cost, because targeting a unit is the same as targeting its Personality (see Unit in the glossary), and a Personality performs an action (taken by his controller) when he is targeted in the action's constraints block. If you bow the same Naval Personality's unit as a cost, this will make him perform Kurogane's action, which is what the rulebook Reaction requires. As a consequence it is legal to use this Reaction, then Kurogane's Battle action, as long as both of them are performed by the same Naval Personality.
