The Ring of water and the tactician ability

L5R CCG Rules board, 3 January 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Ok so I am in a battle and I have already used three different battle actions. Can I then use a personalities tactician ability to put the ring of water into play. Because I was told that since tactician is a rulebook effect and not a battle ability I can not use tactician to put ring of water into play.

Ring of water: After you successfully resolve your fourth or later Battle action from cards with different titles in one battle: You may put this card into play. Battle: Bow this card or discard it from your hand: Move your target unit home or to a battlefield with one or more enemy units. If the unit moved, Straighten it.

Not exactly sure what the wording is for the tactician ability sorry. But I know that it is discard a card from my hand and add it's focus value to my tacticians force and it can only be used once per turn.

No.

It's not an action from a card (see "from," here: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_F#From).
