A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Alex said that traits are never performed, is this in reference to every trait? So Kakita Hideo - exp would not rehonour if he won a duel, as the honour gain is a trait?
Or does it count as performed as it comes from the personality itself?

Additionally a dishonorable Kakita Hideo XP would be rehonored if he won a duel, thanks to his trait. To perform an action that produces an Honor gain is not the only way to rehonor oneself.
Physically marked card states, Honorable and dishonorable: "Before a player gains Honor from [a] trait that [...] came from [...] one or more of his or her dishonorable Personalities, the Personality is rehonored and the player does not gain the Honor."

So the first post specifically asks if Kakita Hideo XP would NOT rehonor because of his trait. A rules junta says he is right, because traits are not performed, and cites a rule. Another rules junta follows up to say Kakita Hideo XP DOES rehonor, citing a rule. Umm......confusion ensues for me.

Read the statements carefully.
Zen states that traits are never performed. This is true.
However, Hideo xp rehonors because the honor gain comes from a trait on his card. This is also true.
There is more than one way to rehonor a personality.

My apologies for not clarifying the specific card interaction, and only answering the general question. Usually, clearing up the general question also takes care of the specifics.
