Daigotsu Gyoken Exp. and Battle Resolution

L5R CCG Rules board, 1 November 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 1 November 2009

If Daigotsu Gyoken Exp. goes through battle resolution, can he still use his Battle ability?

Battle: Even if Gyoken is bowed, if he assigned to the current battlefield or if any enemy units are there: He is relentless. Move him there. Straighten his unit if he moved.

I am assuming the answer is no, due to the Second-Battle rule:

Before a unit that was in an attacking army at any point during a battle’s resolution moves to a battlefield during the same Attack Phase, the unit’s movement does not happen.

Unlike the Rules of Presence and Location, the Second-Battle Rule does not restrict the taking of actions, but prevents movement as a cost or effect under certain conditions.

Please advise.

Assuming this is still the same phase, he may still use the battle ability, but he will not move to the battlefield because of the rule you quoted. (He will therefore not straighten)
