"Open: Bow this Shugenja: Target a Personality. After the next time this turn he assigns to attack you, gain 2 honor and straighten this Shugenja."
Now, this opens a breach where I could assign my shugenja? I tried the FAQ, it is very useful most of times, but I don't know if he "assigns" before I could assign. If my shugenja is cavalry, this is somewhat different?

Remember that there are different phases of assignment.
1) Infantry Attacker 2) Infantry Defender 3) Cavalry Attacker 4) Cavalry Defender
If the opponent assigns in step 1, you will almost always (barring other effects) be able to assign as the defender.
If the opponent assigns in step 3, if your shugenja's unit is not also Cavalry, then he/she will have missed the opportunity to assign, sadly.
