IF i Use Might of the kami, and the Card is destroyed. Does the effect still trigger?

Sorry this was a bit unclear and rushed, it was a question at the local tournament today and while we believe we know the players involved wanted an actual ruling from an official. If I target someone with Might of the Kami's open action and then the Might of the kami is destroyed, does its action still trigger when the personality i targeted assigns?

I'm not clear which card you mean by "the card". "The effect" is a little generic too. Could you elaborate a bit, please?
