Swift Sword Cut

L5R CCG Rules board, 19 July 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Battle: Target your Kensai Personality and bow him or one of his Weapons: Destroy a target enemy Follower, Item or Personality without attachments and with Force less than or equal to your Kensai's Chi.

Does the underscored part affect all the possible targets, or just the personality without attachments part?

Example: I have a kensai with chi 4. I play swift sword cut targeting him; can I target a Taoist Archer (Force 5) and destroy it?

From the CR: Modifiers attached to a phrase in the form of "a [modifier] X or Y" or "a [modifier] X and Y" modify both things in that phrase. Example: "A Shadowlands Shugenja or Monk" means "a Shadowlands Shugenja or a Shadowlands Monk." If "a Monk or a Shadowlands Shugenja" is meant, it will be written that way. Likewise, "a Shugenja or Monk without attachments" means "a Shugenja without attachments or a Monk without attachments."

Rules about wording IMHO say it wouldn't be legal, but I feel there's something illogic here.

Swift Sword Cut: Does ("with Force less than or equal to your Kensai's Chi") affect all the possible targets, or just the personality without attachments part?

All, as per the last quoted example in the wiki.
