Kosoku with followers

L5R CCG Rules board, 19 July 2009 to 24 August 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I have a Shiba Kosoku in play, with a 1f farmlands follower attached, she is attacking with Isawa Mizuhiko. My opponent bows a spearmen for a ranged 2 attack targeting Mizuhiko, I react with Kosoku's action. What happens?

a. the farmlands follower dies.

b. since she only references herself, the ranged attack is nullified by her force being higher.

c. I cannot react because she is not a legal target with a follower attached.

d. none of the above.

Legal to use Shiba Kosoku's reaction, but no effect happens, due to the "if legal" condition on Kosoku's effect.

I am a little confused, the answer was not really that clear, at least to me. Is it legal to redirect a ranged attack that is meant for a personality to a Shiba Kosoku who has a follower attached?

Also, in the same area: If I have a Blade of Guile attached to Kosoku, can I have an action target her that is meant to dishonor a target shugenja? Does Blade of Guile make the action illegal so that her reaction cannot be used?

It IS legal to use Shiba Kosoku's reaction, as the trigger (someone targeted a Shugenja at Kosoku's location) has occurred. However, Kosoku's action will have no effect, as Kosoku herself is NOT a legal target for the Ranged Attack, as she has a follower attached.

Blade of Guile merely negates any effects which dishonor the person it is attached to, so not only may you use Shiba Kosoku's reaction, it will have it's intended effect: The action will instead target Shiba Kosoku, and any effects that would dishonor Kosoku will be negated thanks to Blade of Guile (Oh that silly Kokujin! )

I know I am probably irritating you by now, but, I am still confused. Since it IS allowed to use her action, she has changed the target to her. You say that it then has no effect because she has a follower. So, what happens to the action? Does it go back to the intended target or does it have no effect?

As was stated in the first reply, the effect fails. Since a new target is not selected (effect fails), the Ranged Attack continues with the original target.
