Black Silk Castle and Misdirection

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

My opponent is using the Spider Stronghold Black SIlk Castle. I have two dead personalities, a 12 gold cost personality and a 4 gold cost personality. During battle, I have a two 7 gold cost personalities present at the current battlefeild. My opponent annouces that he wishes to use Black Silk Castles printed action, and I annoucne my intent to play a misdirection.

My question:

Since I choose both targets, can I choose to target the dead 4 gold cost personality, knowing that this make it so there is no legal target for the second targeting of Black Silk Castle? Or am I forced to target my 12 gold cost dead personality with the inital targeting and misdirection will merely allow me to choose which of my 7 gold cost people die?

Yes. If you choose to make this action target your dead cheap Personality, you can no longer choose any legal second target so the action fails and its effects do not resolve (see below).

Interference with targeting: "From the point when an action is announced legally, to the point when a particular required targeting occurs [...], if anything interferes so that required targeting can no longer be met, the action fails. Its effects do not resolve, further targeting does not take place, and its costs are waived. It is still considered taken, but not resolved."
