Turn The tide Versus Caught In the Act

L5R CCG Rules board, 2 January 2009 to 3 January 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Is there a particular reason why Turn the tides "continue to bow" overrules Caught in the acts "negate all bowing"?

Turn the Tide compels the enemy leader to "repeatedly target and bow a different unbowed Personality in his army until his army no longer has more unbowed Personalities than yours, or until he can no longer do so" (card text). These are sequential bowing effects and each one bows one Personality.

Caught In The Act's Reaction is taken before another player's action bows one or more of your Personalities to negate that specific bowing instantaneously, but no other subsequent bowing from the same action. As a consequence, if you play Caught in the Act to negate one bowing effect from Turn the Tide, you haven't met its ending condition yet, so you must still target and bow a different unbowed Personality, and this new bowing effect is not negated by Caught In The Act.
