Military Assessment Question

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 November 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I guarantee this will come up with my players (I have already heard the rumblings), so...

If an effect says "Move home" and THEN it says "Bow" (or "bow if moved", as is so popular these days), how does in interact with Military Assessment?

It SEEMS to go like this:

1. Move home 2. Straighten from M.A. 3. Bow from original effect.

But that would certainly not be the way most people would read it at first blush.

So...what's the word?

Yes, that sequence is correct.

Just because a bowing effect is often tied conditionally to whether a previous movement effect within the same action occurred or not, that doesn't bind them together so tightly that Military Assessment's Indefinite Conditional Effects can't trigger in between, which would be the appropriate time. The moving and the bowing are still separate effects.
