Togashi Dai & Location

L5R CCG Rules board, 25 October 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

May Togashi Dai pay the cost of bowing a Ring by bowing himself instead even if he is not at the current battlefield? Am I right in assuming he is not performing?

Yes, he may do that. To elaborate a bit:

You are right in that he is not performing the Ring's action, but that's only indirectly related to the Rule of Location. Location doesn't say "Cards not at the current battlefield cannot perform actions". It says,

1. Any cards in units must be at the current battlefield to be legally targeted by a Battle action. 2. If a Battle action is on a card in a unit (a Personality or attachment in play), the unit must be at the current battlefield in order to take that action.

Now, a Personality or Follower performs an action if it targets that card in constraints (the legality of which would be governed by part 1) or if the action is ON that card (which would be governed by part 2).
