Hidden Reserves in play

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 June 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi,

I have the follower Hidden Reserves in play.

Hidden Reserves

Battle: If there are any enemy units at the current battlefield: Attach this card from your hand to your target personality at any location. Move him to the current battlefield.

My question:

Can I use the battle action if there are enemy units at the current battlefield? Or is the attaching from hand a restriction or something else, that NEEDS to happen to even legally anounce the action? Thanks.

Can I use the battle action [on a copy of Hidden Reserves in play] if there are enemy units at the current battlefield?

No, because of the Good Faith Rule: "Additionally, if the action involves putting one or more cards into play as a non-optional effect, the player must be able to bring those cards into play legally to meet the good faith rule [...]". If this Follower is not in your hand but in play, you are unable to "attach [it] from your hand" therefore the Good Faith Rule forbids you to take its action.
