Regions battle actions

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 June 2008 to 12 June 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Do regions battle actions have to be used at the battlefield they are attached to unless they say otherwise?

No, unless their text specifically says so. A Battle action from a Region follows no special rules other than Presence and Location (first part); it ignores the second part of the Rule of Location because it is not on a card in a unit.

In regards to: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=68750#p888969

I am a little confused. If the above answer is true, then what is the point of terrains with the wording "Even if this Region is not at the current battlefield"?

Text taken from Valley of Heroes:

Unique Your Hero Personalities have +1F for each honorably dead Hero Personality in your discard pile. Heroic Battle: Even if this Region is not at the current battlefield, bow it: Straighten a target Hero Personality.

Valley of Heroes is from what is called by players a "dual-bugged" expansion. The little circle with a Kanji in it in the lower left- and/or right-hand corner of cards is called a "bug" by players; these indicate what legality the card has. The last few sets of a previous "arc" are usually ALSO legal for the upcoming "arc". In the previous "arc" of legality, Lotus, Regions' actions could only be used at their Province, but that rule was changed in Samurai. Valley of Heroes was legal for Lotus first, and thus had the text you read, which is now superfluous under Samurai rules.
