Yoritomo Han-ku

L5R CCG Rules board, 28 May 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Battle: If Han-ku is at a battlefield: He tacks against the prevailing wind. Move him to another battlefield where there are enemy units.

If battlefiled A is the current battlefield, can Han-ku use his ability to move from battlefield B to battlefield C, assuming enemy units are present at that location?

Yoritomo Han-ku: If battlefiled A is the current battlefield, can Han-ku use his ability to move from battlefield B to battlefield C, assuming enemy units are present at that location?

The exception in the constraints block of text bypasses the second part of the Rule of Location, so nothing prevents it that I can find. (Additional: See following post.)

Regarding this:

Excuse me, but I fail to see how does Yoritomo Han-ku's clause bypasses the rule of location. My understanding is that her ability would serve to move her(him?) from the current battlefield to another, or from another battlefield to the current. "If Han-Ku is at a battlefield" is a restriction on the use, not a permission to ignore rules. In order to be able to move from B to C she'd have to have a "even if he isn't at the current battlefield" in it.

Is there anything wrong in my statement?

It's been pointed out to me that exceptions to rules don't just say "If," but say, "Even if", so the bit in the constraint blocks does not waive the Rule of Location.

The upshot is he can move to the current battlefield from another, or from another battlefield to the current one.
