"Rosoku Sensei" and "The Darkened Path"

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 May 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the answer. I have discovered two more cards with it!! viewtopic.php?f=59&t=68434 Thanks for every answers I got in this forum!

I one more question : I have a Rosoku Sensei in play. I use the Darkened Path to remove it from the game, will it return into play as the Kiho says or not ? The Rosoku Sensei cannot be considered as a Ring while it is out of play.

I have asked about the K'mee action because the Rosoku Sensei would come into play and become a ring at the end of the K'mee Action. Now with the Kiho, The Rosoku Sensei is a Ring at the start of the action. Then it comes out of play so I don't know if I can consider it as a ring for the whole action.

The cards : Rosoku Sensei Reads, "Rosoku Sensei -1PS +0GP +0FH All Clans Sensei. While this Sensei is in play, it counts as an Elemental Ring for actions on cards. No more than one of your Actions can put cards in your hand each phase." [Erratum, web, 30 August 2006; ML, web, 30 August 2006]

The Darkened Path Kiho Maho Open: Target and bow a Monk or Enlightened Personality you control: Target a number of Rings in play up to your Personality's Chi. Remove those Rings from the game. Return them to the game before the beginning of your next turn. Lose 3 Honor.

Thanks in advance, Best Regards, Rémi.

On behalf of all of us Rules Monkeys, you are quite welcome.

It was legally targeted as a Ring when you took The Darkened Path's action and began resolving its effects. The fact it's not a Ring while out of play won't stop the delayed effect of returning it to play from happening.

http://rules.l5r.com/Special_wording_rules#Referring_to_things: "Once a card or other game element is identified by a keyword in a trait or action’s text (such as, “Bow one of your Samurai”) further references to that keyword within that trait or action are meant to only identify the particular game element clearly (such as, “Your Samurai gains +2F”). Specifically, if the Samurai somehow loses the Samurai keyword between the first and second references, the second effect still applies."
