Furious Assault & negating

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 March 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If I control an oposed berseker at the battlefield and use Furious Assault on a oposing personality, when he make his choice to move home I negate the movement with Bayushi Tsimaru, do the personality bows due to the efects of Furious Assault?

Furious Assault

Battle: Target one of your Berserkers or bow one of your target Personalities or Followers: Lose 2 Honor. Target an enemy unit. Its controller may move it home and bow it. If it moved, it cannot move again this Combat Segment. If it did not move, destroy it after this Combat Segment ends.

http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Choices: "A choice involving multiple effects following a 'may' must be taken in an all-or-none fashion, unless they are phrased as alternatives to each other using 'or.'"

(Fixed.)

Does the "all-or-nothing" refer to the effects of the action itself, or it refers too to effects outside the card, such as Tsimaru's Negation. In the exampled case, the unit would not go home, nor bow, because of Tsimaru's negation, correct?

Thanks

The choice to apply the two effects is a package deal. If you chose to move, you must also chose to bow.

The resolution or application of those effects is separate. Moving can be negated without affecting the bowing. Bowing can be negated without affecting the moving.
