Tetsu Kama Mura and Opening Hands

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 February 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

This came up in one of our local tournaments and I had to just scratch my head. Player B is playing out of Tetsu Kama Mura. Before the game starts, Player A cuts Player B's deck. Player B then decides to draw his opening hand from the bottom of the deck. Is this legal?

Yes it is legal to do so. His Stronghold is in play and its game text is relevant at that point. That's the same reason why Ratling Strongholds could affect how many Provinces you started with. Drawing from the bottom of the deck at the start of the game should have no impact on the results from a properly randomized deck.
