Contested Ground + items

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 February 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

found here: http://rules.l5r.com/Card_Types#Items Items have a Force modifier, a Chi modifier, Gold Cost, and Focus Value. Items add or subtract their Force and Chi modifiers to a Personality’s Force and Chi, modifying his stats directly. If the Force or Chi of an Item needs to be checked, its value is the value of its corresponding modifier if it is positive, or zero if the modifier is zero or negative.

Contested Ground reads: Terrain Battle: Each player has the ability, “Battle: Any number of times per turn, bow one or more of your target cards, in one unit, which have equal or greater total Force than the enemy target: Destroy a target enemy Follower, or Personality without Followers.”

1. Using contested ground, is it legal for me to bow a +4 force item to destroy an opposing follower or personality without followers with 4 or less force?

2. Suppose I have a 3 force personality with a +4 force weapon attached. Using contested ground, is it legal for me to bow the 7 force personality as well as the +4 force item to destroy an opposing follower or personality without followers with 11 or less force?

Yes.

2. Suppose I have a 3 force personality with a +4 force weapon attached. Using contested ground, is it legal for me to bow the 7 force personality as well as the +4 force item to destroy an opposing follower or personality without followers with 11 or less force?

Yes. Items have the unique function in this case to "double dip," so to speak.

Shame on your opponent for not bowing one of his 4F or +4F cards to destroy your item first.
