A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I currently have a small question regarding focus pools. According to the rule book and the comprehensive rules, a player may focus a card from his hand instead of from his focus pool.
My question is simply this: Does this give a player a 4th focus card, or does this mean it just replaces one of the 3 allowed for the focus pool?
Thank you for all your help?

You are able to focus once (per duel) from hand in addition to being able to focus from your focus pool. It will not replace any of your focus pool.
