Hoshi Noritada, Ring of Air, and Element's Path

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 14 September 2007

Hoshi Noritada Reaction: After an action resolves which Noritada performed and which targeted another player's card: Gain 2 Honor.

Ring of Air Battle/Open: Bow this card or discard it from your hand: Straighten a target Personality.

The Elements' Path Text Kiho Open: Target one of your Monks and one of your non-Void Rings: Permanently copy an ability from the Ring to the Monk. The Monk permanently need not bow to pay costs of the copied action.

Hoshi Noritada uses The Elements' Path to copy the ability from Ring of Air. My opponent controls no bowed personalities. I would like to use the copied ability to target an already-straightened personality of the opponent's, and use Noritada's reaction to gain two honor. Can I?

From here, I can target an already straightened personality, but the effect of straightening will be negated. If the effect is negated, does it still count as an action resolving for purposes of triggering Hoshi Noritada's reaction?
