Misdirection. "up to", and Good Faith

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

The recent series of questions about Misdirection and the Good Faith rule made me think of this question...

Say a player is playing some action in a way that is only legal because the Good Faith rule lets him make a choice that makes it legal (e.g., Two-Front War with a Personality at a battlefield other than the current one, which is only legal if the performing Courtier is chosen among the targets that move into the current battlefield). If the other player plays Misdirection, is he forced to follow the same restriction?

(My guess is yes, but I've been way wrong in the past)
