Attaching and transferring.

L5R CCG Rules board, 20 August 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Just was reading through the last couple of pages of rulings/questions, and I noticed a discrepancy, I think.

In http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60062 that thread, you state that transferring is not attaching.

Yet in http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60463 this thread it is stated that Daigotsu Kaikou cannot transfer one of the "Clan Armors" to himself, since they can only attach to the appropriate clan.

Maybe I'm crazy, but one of these statements seems like it has to be incorrect, particularly the one involving Kaikou stealing the unique clan armors. Items shouldn't behave one way sometimes, and another way other times.

Transfer

To take an attachment card from one Personality and add it to the unit of another, different Personality.

A player does not need to pay the card's costs when transferring it, but does need to meet requirements and restrictions of attachment. Nonetheless, the transferred card is not attaching to the new Personality for purposes of things that are triggered by attaching, and is not entering play.

Emphasis added. Kaioku needs to meet any requirements and restrictions in order to transfer the item to himself.

I guess that means you are crazy. Not a conclusion I would have made necessarily, but hey, you know yourself better than I do.

One asked a transfer effect would occur. http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_T#Transfer "A player does not need to pay the card's costs when transferring it, but does need to meet requirements and restrictions of attachment." Same with Sharing, incidentally.

The other asks if a transfer can trigger a trait that occurs when attaching. No, because transferring is not attaching -- even though, as noted above, you must follow attachment restrictions.
