re: Cost vs Targetting, tacking on Shout of Victory

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 August 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

re: this ruling.

On page 30 of the rulebook, it says that "you must choose all targets mentioned in the action, in the order they are mentioned." The rule for the first sentence of the effects portion is no longer there.

So, with this in mind as well since all targeting is now down before effects resolve, do you target a personality with lower force before or after the +3F bonus of the action?

Shout of Victory Shout Heroic Battle: Target one of your Personalities who has been targeted by a Shout action this turn: He gains +3F. Bow a target Personality opposing him with lower Force. Destroy that target if your Personality has performed at least two or more other Shout actions with different titles from each other in this battle.

It would have to be targeted before the +3F, since the +3F is an effect and doesn't happen until Effect Resolution while the Targeting must be legal during the Required Targeting step.

That's probably not what they had in mind, though. It probably should've been written as a "bow him if," or a "you may target."
