Unexpected Betrayal - Still waiting on a ruling.

L5R CCG Rules board, 2 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Logically how does this card work? An example below:

I have a 0F Personality in battle on my side and my opponent has.....

"An unbowed Dishonored Crab Samurai X that has a force of 4. You drop Unexpected Betrayal, his force is now added to your side. His force never changes; i.e., his force never drops to 0. So, how can his own force be used against him?

In order to kill him, he would have to be opposed by someone with equal or greater force at resolution. In this case, he can’t oppose himself for his force is already accounted for on your side, so how is he destroyed?"

Is it because the Crab Samurai effectively contribute "Zero" force to his side and 4 Force to the enemies side, resulting in the enemy out-forcing the Crab?

Or

Is it because he is still a 4 Force Crab Samurai vs. a 4 Force "ghost" of himself on the enemies side, resulting in a tie of force?

The card text of Unexpected Betrayal clearly states that the target's force is added to the action player's army force total instead of the target's army force total.
