Winning and Losing Duels

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 June 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Pretty new to the CCG, and I have a quick question, is there a "Default" condition for what happens when a duel is won/lost. ie if you win the dual opponent is destroyed, and do you gain honor for destroying the opponent like in a battle or is it only the affects of what the card says, such as in Impromptu Duel.

I looked in the Lotus edition booklet and the online rules for the new Samurai edition but can't find anything.

any info would be great

(I)s there a "Default" condition for what happens when a duel is won/lost.

The rules are changing on that matter.

For cards printed before The Truest Test: Lotus rules, pg. 62: "The normal result of losing a duel is the destruction of that Personality. There is no normal result for winning a duel."

For cards printed in The Truest Test and beyond: Comprehensive Rules, Challenges and Duels: "There is no default consequence of winning or losing a duel."
