Last night, during a heated battle between the Phoenix and the Scorpion, the Phoenix player attached several spells and an item during the action phase and attempted to put a Ring into play (Void). His position was that this was the action phase and therefor any card played would be an action card. My ninja and I took offense to this assuring him that it required Action cards and not cards played during the Action phase to bring the Ring of the Void into play.
One of us is wrong. Which one?

Action card = red bordered Fate card, not card in Fate hand put into play through an Action.
