A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In that case, can we have clarification on which things the rulebook tells us to do are rulebook effects (such as destruction from 0 Chi), and which are not (such as, evidently, every step in the battle resolution segment)?

The point is not that destruction by battle resolution is not a rulebook effect -- it is. The point is that it's one effect, not two conflicting effects.
