Shosuro Egg

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If i egg shosuro does the react take effect, discarding all the cards, because from what i understand surge works so i wanted to know if egg does.

i would say yes it does cause it copies the affects of comin in play

can expand the question a bit? instead of just Shosuro's Reaction, does Egg allow you to use CiP Reactions on that personality at all?

Limited: Target a Personality, including a Unique Personality or one who will not join you. After entering play, this card becomes a copy of that Personality's printed card plus all permanent changes in effect on it. None of the Personality's costs need to be paid and no entering-play effects are produced.

The Egg of P'an Ku enters play. And all "after this card enters play" reactions on the copied card actually can be used (not the "before/when this card enter play"). I'm not sure for the traits (since they should take place at the same time as the copying, I'd say the opportunity to let them act has alredy passed).

"None of the Personality's costs need to be paid and no entering-play effects are produced.

that's the part that has me concerned. is that just there for cards with "when <cardname> enters play, do this" traits or any effect at all that keys off entering play?

It has already beel ruled on the mailing list by Marty that when someone eggs Shosuro, the reaction on the egg-now-Shosuro can be used.

It is not an entering play effect. Its a Reaction. It has a trigger to entering play, but that is different. An entering play effect would be along the lines of any Shadowlands Personality with "Lose X honor." Or a trait which reads "Before/when/after this card enters play . . ."

Quite right.

Shosuro does not have any "Entering play effects."

Shosuro does have a Reaction.

Egg of P'an Ku enters play.

"After entering play, this card becomes a copy of that Personality's printed card"

So now the Egg has copied Shosuro, and it is still "after entering play."

The Egg of Shosuro has the ability: "Reaction: After [This Card] enters play or overlays: Target a player. Discard all cards from his Provinces."

Since it is still "after entering play" you can use this Reaction.

So action cards enter play without location, when played, until such time as they resolve? And, when egg becomes a peep, without location becomes the default location for personalities, the fief?

Most action cards do not enter play. Here.

thanx for the clarification

okay, got it. just thought that the "no entering play effects" part meant that the Egg magically pops up and doesn't count as entering play. many thanks.
