Mirotai and Formations

L5R CCG Rules board, 9 February 2005 to 10 February 2005

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Can you lose Mirotai's tactician trait to add a follower and still meet the requitements on rain of death or forward sentries?

i would assume so because while he temporarily loses the tactician trait as an effect of his limited ability he doesn't have the printed trait erased from his card (like printed force for the black heart wind - if a personality has a -4 penalty and zero current force, they still have 4 force printed)

So what's the deal?

Changes to a card do not affect the card's printed properties in any way unless it explicitly mentioned "printed."

In the same respect, effects don't refer to the card's printed properties in any way unless explicitly references "printed," as in "printed Force," "printed Chi," or "printed Tactician" trait.

Mirotai can lose Tactician and still have the "printed Tactician trait," so he counts for forming Rain of Death or Forward Sentries. However, you could not have him Perform any Tactical Actions, as those require the current state of his card to have Tactician, rather than the Printed state.

Of course, if you run Kenson Gakka you won't often run afoul of that problem either.

Ditto.

I was looking for the printed tacticna thread at LCD and...

I can't find it...-_-'

Quick request for clarification on part of your comment:

Does this mean that Kenson Gakka "re-grants" the Tactician trait to Mirotai after he loses it?

As in

1) I use Mirotai's Limited ability. He loses Tactician.

2) Kenson Gakka immediately grants Tactician to him, since he is a Lion personality with over 2 chi.(However, he cannot gain force bonuses with it).

Is this correct?

Indeed it does. It makes him capable of taking a tactical action during battle, and of course, not gain force from it.

- steps out -

BTW: It gives him tactician during battle, not all the time.

But because the Akodo House Guard requires him only to not be a tactician, not a printed tactitian, to attach for cheaper, he can gain a follower, lose tactician, attach the House Guard for reduced cost, then regain tactician at the beginning of the next turn, correct?

A player, 10 February 2005

no, because he is still printed as tactian

Incorrect. Only cards that check for printed Tactician trait care about the printed Tactician trait.

Bayushi Genshichi's example is correct.
