L5R CCG Rules board, 7 February 2005 to 9 February 2005
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In forward sentries is stated that is formed by 2 personalities with the cavalry, scout, harrier or printed tactician traits.
This means that you must have two personalities with the same trait, or that two of your personalities can have any of the traits?
For example:
Can I meet forward sentries requeriment with Toturi Kurako(tactician) and Ikoma Korin exp(scout)? Or should it be Toturi Kurako(tactician) and Akodo Kuemon(tactician)?
Thanks in advance

I don't think that link actually answers your question.
I believe the answer is yes, they may have different traits, as long as those traits are listed. Your example of Kurako and Korin would indeed meet the requirements for Forward Sentries. However, as Zen pointed out, if you gave Ikoma Korin xp the Tactician trait, he could not by himself fulfill the requirements of the formation. He would need an entirely different personality to have one of the listed traits.

I do beg to disagree with you ....i believe you are wrong (although i might be to but this is my interpretataion)
it says formed by 2 personalities with the cavalry, scout, harrier or printed tactician traits. now if you have two Cavalry Personalities then you would meet the formed by if you have two Harriers you would meet the formed by .....now if you have a Cavalry and Tactician then you wouldnt meet it because the way i am reading it is you must have two of these traits now if it said Formed by to Personalities with EITHER the cavalry or tactician or Harrier or scout then yes you could mix and match ...
hope that clear ....

Soory, Zen, but Sotsanu it's right. I don't see how that link answers my question. I know that, in the case that Korin has tactician, he can't meet the requeriments by himself. What I'm asking is if two peeps, one with tactician and one with cavalry, will meet the requeriment.

Ahh... forgive him, his a bit Jeff-ic lately (while Jeff is not quite himself trying to make answers with more than 3 word, thanks for the effort by the way *hugs*). This is probably by him trying to answer that many question... he do not even read the whole question before answering.
Waiting for him, I'm pretty sure that you can use a scout and a harrier for example. If that wasn't the case, you would have had something like "2 personalities that are both either ...". Well, wait for a rule official anyway.

Let's try again... You need 2 Personalities with the same trait.
(And yes, the creation of this forum have created a dramatic increase in the number of questions, which is resulting in a lot of quick reading and more errors than I'd like. I'm dancing as fast as I can here...)

The same trait, Zen, or just two Personalities that each have at least 1 qualifier from the list? I had figured from reading it that one Personality with Scout and another Personality with printed Tactician would do it. By your interpretation, is it also impossible to form an Archer Squad with 2 Samurai and 1 Bushi?

The former was what I was after, though I can sure see the other point of view. This one is going to have to be kicked upstairs. Rules Junta, to the meeting room!

The latter. Note that this is a correction of my earlier post (not long enough to be called a reversal, really), confirmed by the Rules Junta.
Does Akodo Mirotai that has used his ability and lost his Tactician trait for the remainder of the turn count as a "personality with ... printed Tactician trait"? In other words does the "printed" refer only to what's physically written on the card?
A player, 8 February 2005
mirotai ALWAYS HAS THE PRINTED TACTICIAN TRAIT. This is per marty Lund from the swift sword (lion clan forum). So yes, he can help form the formation.

Thanks (again). It's amazing how quickly rules questions are being answered officially in this forum. Congratulations!!
