A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So, I'm trying to make heads or tails of whether or not Fueling the Flames and Ward of Air combo works to save my shugenja, but still destroy my opponents cards based on the various different rulings. The most recent being on Wedge and Way of the Crab, here viewtopic.php?f=59&t=114589
Which is in opposition to this previous ruling from the RT on Thoughtless Sacrifice and Ward of Air viewtopic.php?f=59&t=109686
But, a day or two after the above ruling on Thoughtless Sacrifice and Ward of Air was this ruling on Fueling the Flames and Ward of Air.

So... seriously, does Ward of Air negate the whole battle action, or just the destruction of my personality?

Ward of Air negates the battle action (not just the Personality's destruction), but only from the point at which it triggers. Instantaneous effects that have not yet occurred do not happen, but previously applied instantaneous effects are not undone.
In the case of Thoughtless Sacrifice, the destruction of the two Personalities is simultaneous, so Ward of Air negates both destructions.
In the case of Wedge, the force doubling occurs in battle resolution, and then, after the battle ends, it tries to destroy the Personality, triggering Ward of Air's trait. The destruction is negated, as is the force doubling since that is an ongoing effect rather than an instantaneous one.
In the case of Fueling the Flames, the destruction of the caster occurs after the Ranged attack is applied; negating Fueling the Flames at this point does not undo any destruction caused by the Ranged Attack.
